MICHAEL RAUCHEISEN

A contemporary expressionist, Michael Raucheisen is a Baltimore born singer/songwriter and artist now living near Boston. In his paintings, lyrical brushstrokes and entertaining colors fill the canvas with spirited, childlike surprise.

Surrounded by art and the musical operatic world of his grandfather, a respected German pianist, Michael’s artistic development began at a very early age. More recently, his painting and creative growth has been influenced by the works of Peter Max, James Rizzi, Jackson Pollock, Picasso, Miro and Van Gogh.

As a songwriter, his song, “In Love with a Friend” was part of the Grammy nominated Deep Dish album, “George Is On.”

In 2006 he began painting his flower series, partly to express his celebration of the blessings of marriage, family and friends and as a Thank You for everyone special in his life.

Stepping out to take a new and unfamiliar direction, Michael has found an identifying style that is uniquely his own. Ignoring the traditional approach, his paintings move with simpler lines and a contemporary color palette.

Today along with his music reaching International audiences, his paintings may be found in private and corporate collections around the world.

I HAD A DREAM

While traveling home from our honeymoon, my wife and I were in a near fatal car accident, totaling our car but lucky to walk away uninjured. That night I began dreaming of a painting hanging over our bed. It was half green, half blue, with a black stripe, a white stripe, and a silver stripe down the middle; boldly signed in red. I could see it vividly, and although I was never sure why, I would dream about it every night. After several weeks of nearly sleepless nights, the dream became so intense that I was compelled to buy some canvas and bring this "dream painting" to fruition. I created two smaller "tests" of the "dream" and was very pleased with the outcome. However, through a series of "accidents" or perhaps divine intervention these paintings began to take on a life of their own and I finished them at the end of December, 2006. They appropriately became New Year's Eve 1 & 2.

I always see something new when viewing them and appreciate the sense of life they seem to portray. Retrospectively, I have also begun to find more meaning in the colors and what they now represent to me. The green represents the ground or the earth; the blue, the sky or heaven; black is death; white is life; silver is the "silver lining" or the fine gray line between life and death, heaven and earth that we all walk and the red is the blood or life that is running inside us all.

In early December 2008, nearly two years after the first "dream" painting was created, I was inspired to create another project that would be a collective of art and history, and make this unexplainable dream a reality, A 365 DAY RETROSPECTIVE.

A 365 DAY RETROSPECTIVE

On January 1, 2009 I began to embark on a year long art project entitled, I Had A Dream: A 365 DAY RETROSPECTIVE, painting one painting every day for the entire year of 2009, based on a dream I had after a near fatal car accident. On the back of each painting, a diary or recap of the day’s events was inscribed, creating a daily time capsule within each piece. Now the project is complete and on May 8,  2010the collective 365 paintings with the daily recaps were assembled to present a tangible retrospective of art and history for 2009. After the showing of the collective, paintings were presented to their respective owners, and they now not only own a painting, but a piece of history. Remaining original pieces and signed, limited edition prints are still available for purchase.
